Nature on the Farm
Spring is a great time to see pheasants; these cock pheasants made a great display when they met in the garden.
It is also a great time for wildflowers; since the farm went organic many wildflowers have increased in number. One of the great spring wildflowers is Orchis mascula, which blossoms in the wood, it flowers alongside, Allium ursinum Ramsoms (wild garlic) and Hyacinthoides non-scripta (bluebell) and primula vulgaris (primrose).
A variety of butterflies can always be seen on the farm. Peacock butterflies are often found hibernating in the farm buildings over the winter and tiger moths are frequently seen in the organic vegetable garden.
House martins nest under the eaves of the farmhouse every year and are always a great attraction for visitors to the farm shop.
Sika deer are occasionally seen. They are most active at dawn and dusk. The deer here were in the fields close to the fish farm.
