Welcome to Modbury Organic Farm
The farm lies alongside the river bride within the Bride Valley in Dorset about
1 mile inland from Chesil Beach, on the West Dorset coast.
Since 1987 Modbury Farm has been home to a herd of Jersey cows cared for by
Tim and Julie Garry.
It is principally a dairy farm and the Jerseys provide the organic unpasturised (raw) milk and cream that is sold in the farm shop.
Converted to Organic in 2001, it has become a haven for wildlife; its eight-acre woodland contains many species of plants, and its wide hedgerows create ‘corridors’ for the movement of wildlife around the farm.
Coomber Jerseys
The cows graze on clover rich pastures throughout the summer and live in large straw barns eating organic grass silage in the winter.
Calves are raised naturally using ‘foster mum’ cows until they are weaned.
Modbury Pork and Beef
The farm’s own naturally reared pork is available in the shop, the pigs being reared on the skimmed milk surplus product from the cream making. Please ring to check availability.
The beef on sale in the Farm shop is from Modbury’s own Jersey cross Aberdeen Angus beef cattle, born on the farm and naturally reared. Please ring to check availability.
Organic Vegetable Garden
In the summer Julie grows organic vegetables in the farm’s vegetable garden. The garden is next to the river so the vegetables grow well on the rich loam.
Modbury Farm Shop
Since July 2007 our Farm Shop has been housed in a beautifully restored shippon once home to cows and goats. This larger building gives us the opportunity to expand the range of goods available. Besides the farm’s own produce, we also sell many organic or specialist products, and actively promote local produce grown or made in Dorset. Please visit the shop for further details.
Modbury Tea Room
Throughout the summer months you can visit our tearoom also housed in our restored shippon. Come and try some delicious Jersey Ice Cream, enjoy a slice of homemade cake or treat yourself to a Dorset cream tea.
