| Modbury Organic Farm and its History The farm lies within the Bride Valley about 1 mile inland from Chesil Beach, its pastures border the river Bride as it meanders through the valley towards the sea. |

Modbury sits on land that holds the ruins of the medieval village of Modbury, and Sturthill. Farmed since the 1700’s, the fields have centuries old boundaries, with names such as 'Mill Hams' and 'Long Strap'. The Farmhouse, dating from the 1850’s, was originally the Dairy House for Berwick Farm.
Converted to Organic in 2001, the farm has become a haven for wildlife; its eight-acre woodland contains many species of plants such as Stinking Iris and the Wayfaring Tree, its wide hedgerows creating ‘corridors’ for the movement of wildlife around the farm. |

Since 1987 Modbury has been home to a herd of friendly Jerseys cared for by Tim and Julie Garry. It is principally a dairy farm and the ‘girls’ provide the organic unpasteurised “real milk” and cream that is sold in the farm shop. The cows graze on clover rich pastures throughout the summer and live in spacious straw barns eating organic grass silage in the winter. |

The farm’s own naturally reared pork (joints, pork chops etc), sausage and bacon burgers (subject to availability) is available in the shop, the pigs being reared on the skimmed milk surplus product from the cream making. The beef on sale in the Farm shop is from Modbury’s own Jersey cross beef cattle that are born on the farm and are naturally reared. |
